He became the first Chinese citizen to receive such an honor. Born in the countryside, Mo Yan grew up in an environment filled with folk culture, which has naturally affected his style. He was first known by many for the movie Red Sorghum(红高粱), which has left people thinking more about the Chinese farmers’ lives.
