Answering God’s call… Matrimony and Holy Orders
Welcome back Motivation Monday Happy Monday!
Called from birth… • "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.“- Jeremiah 1:5
What is a vocation? • The call each of us has in life to be the person God wants each to be and the way we each serve the Church and the Kingdom of God.
What is the vocation of every Christian? • Every Christian is called to holiness. • Our specific vocations help us determine what path to use to get to holiness.
Specific vocations: • Marriage • Single life • Priesthood • Sister • Consecrated life • Lay ecclesial ministry
See p. 149- Call to Single Life • Name characteristics of the single life
See p. 150- Call to Married Life • Name characteristics of married life • Define matrimony: • A solemn agreement between a woman and a man to be partners for life both for their own good and for bringing up children.
The purpose of marriage… • To get each other to heaven • To procreate • Genesis 1:28; “Then God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply…’” • Catholic Catechism 1652: “Children are the supreme gift of marriage and contribute greatly to the good of the parents themselves.”
Reflect… • What is matrimony? • How do you discover your vocation?
