  2. Where did the idea come from? • Betty needed to send a letter. • She didn’t have a stamp • Wanted a machine to do it

  3. The VisionWhat we wanted from our robot • The machine would take the envelope and roll it down a track • A stamp would press down • The letter would roll out with a stamp in the right spot • On the back of the envelope it would print: I U

  4. Time to buildLet’s simplify • Instead of rolling the letter through, place it on a steady bottom piece. • Instead of pressing the stamp down, roll it onto the letter • The bottom is an incline while the roller is horizontal • The stamp only touches the right corner

  5. Problems We Ran Into • Balancing the roller on a rack • Finding how much of an incline we need • Programming • Placing the stamp • “OK, chill out. This is not the end of the world. Let’s take a deep breath, nice and slow, and then count from one to ten…” ~Mambi

Solutions • Two axels go straight across to give support guides on each side to keep it straight and balanced. • Built up the incline until it was at the right level. • Changed motor’s power levels and times • Test the stamp roller and mark the spot where it would touch • Use just enough tape to keep the stamp secure, but able to stick to the letter

  7. A Little Chat With Piggy Betty: What are you doing in our picture, little piggy? Piggy: Oh, well…I just …you know… hanging out with you guys, and sharing the fun with Robot Fluffy. Betty: So…are you joining us? Piggy: Yeah! Sure, why not? I mean…I would love to. Betty: OK. Cool…We’ll make your dreamcome true.

  8. Piggy’s Operation • Connect gears to a second motor to make an “elevator lift” • Piggy is attached to the gear • The motor rotates up and down placing a piggy stamp in the left corner

How it Works • The roller goes across placing the stamp on the envelope • It hits the touch sensor, stops and plays a little song. • “thong -tho-thong-thong-thong!” ~Mambi • The Second motor turns, stamping the pig down and bringing it back up • Light turns on to let you know it’s all done • Take your letter out, it’s ready, • Hope you don’t have “fatty hands”
