Advanced Beam Loss Monitoring System for PETS: Installation and Configuration Overview

In 2004, six Beam Loss Monitors (BLMs) were installed along the PETS tank, utilizing Aluminum Cathode Electron Multipliers with a 2 ns response time for high temporal resolution in beam loss observations. These detectors operate in parallel, with output signals amplified via 26/46 dB 300 MHz amplifier cards. The digitized signals are processed using a VME module with a 12-bit acquisition at 96 MHz. Detailed configuration and position of the BLMs are provided, alongside a comprehensive cost estimate for the components involved, amounting to 28.1kCHF for the BLM units.

  1. BLM system for the PETS in 2004 • 6 Beam Loss Monitors are installed and distributed along the PETS Tank • The detectors are Aluminum Cathode Electron Multipliers. They have a fast time response (2ns) which allows to observe the time evolution of the beam losses. • All the BLM’s are supplied in parallel • Every signal can be amplified in the tunnel using a 26/46dB 300MHz amplifier card. • The output signals are then sent to fast Analog to Digital converters Rack 095 8 channels digitizer VME module 12 bits acquisition @ 96 MHz 0-2kV, 100mA Power supply Gallery Tunnel e- T.
