Merchant Alert Protocol Update - August 2nd-3rd, 2011 Boise, Idaho
The Merchant Alert Protocol (MAP) Guideline has been updated following approval at the July 2011 Denver MIC meeting. Key enhancements include expanded use of MAP Alerts for primary communications during outages, a documented approach to testing, and clarified information requirements from merchants to balancing authorities. A testing schedule for 2011 has been established, and recent alerts have been initiated. OATI will implement these upgrades on the Production OASIS system with version 3.5.11 on August 18th, 2011.

MAP Guideline Update • Revised Merchant Alert Protocol Guideline: • Approved at the July 2011 Denver MIC meeting. • Expanded use; • Document approach to testing; and, • Clarify information required from merchant to balancing authority. • OATI planned upgrades. • Recently initiated Merchant Alerts.
MAP Guideline Update Con’t… • Expanded Use: • Limited expansion of use of MAP Alerts for primary communication (phone) and e-Tagging system outages in addition to insufficient resources to meet obligations. • Documented Testing Approach: • Under normal conditions, tests will be conducted ≥ 4 times / yr. and ≤ 12 times / yr. • “Test” will be noted in “Comment” field of Alert • Timing of tests will be coordinated with Reliability Coordinators
MAP Guideline Update Con’t… • Establish testing schedule for 2011. • Clarified merchant information required: • Start/End date (and time) • Optional (reference number, comments) • Other clarifying edits • Allowing merchants to view all archived Merchant Alert messages • OATI will implement this upgrade on Production OASIS with release 3.5.11 on August 18th, 2011.
