  1. Parents’ Information Evening Years 2 Miss Booth & Miss Dyke Mrs Dunne, Mrs Collins, Miss Shae, Mrs Botterill, Mrs Plant and Mrs Rogerson.

  2. KS1 Curriculum & Testing • The curriculum is taught through topics based on the 6 strands taught in the Foundation Stage. See the website for Topics over the year. Children can bring in topic related items to show. • Children will be assessed throughout the year by teachers at the end of a unit of work • Y2 sit SATs during May. This forms part of our assessment but levels are teacher assessed.

  3. Please try to listen to your child read as often as possible Don’t worry if the reading books appear easy Don’t worry if your child is asked to re- read some books Comment on your child’s reading Put books in Reading Box Reading

  4. Phonics • Phonics groups • Pure Sounds – see Ks1 hub • ‘Say It, Spell It’ words, Tricky words • Reading and Spelling • HFW list in homework books.

  5. Spellings • Children will be given spellings each Tuesday and should keep their spelling book until Tuesday. • There will be a spelling test on the following Tuesday • Sometimes spellings will be practised in class but need to be learnt at home

  6. Homework • Homework will be given on a Friday . It may be Numeracy, Literacy or Topic related • Sometimes children will be asked to find things out or bring things in from home • Homework will be collected in on a Tuesday • Homework forum for parents Homework

  7. Handwriting • After initial practice children will begin to learn joined up handwriting in Year 2

  8. ICT • Class Blog on website • Purple Mash home access • KS1 hub • Ipads, classmates and computers

  9. Year 2 Non Negotiables

  10. Activities that will help your child’s learning. • Ask me a question: ‘I’m thinking of number or shape …’ • Real-life situations, e.g. spending pocket money, time. • Baking and measuring activities. • When reading, ask questions • about the story.

  11. PE • PE kit in school • Outdoor PE kit (cross country) • Earrings • Clothes must be named

  12. Is it nearly dinner time? • Healthy eating – fruit is available at breaktime. Water bottles Dinner money in a labelled envelope on a Monday only please

  13. Performances Class assemblies Class 5 – 26th September Class 6 – 10th October House Activities Christmas Production

  14. Drop off and collection Please see your child into the line and allow them to come into school on their own. On collection your child will not allowed to leave until they see their adult on the school playground.

  15. Individual Consultations • Individual Consultations are on 23rd and 24th October
