  2. New Legislation Assembly Bill 1246 (Brownley) • Mathematics Adoption • Categorical flexibility funding • Update sufficiency requirement • Eight-year cycle for all subjects

  3. New Legislation Assembly Bill 1246 (continued) • Mid-cycle updates • Replace “30 months rule” • IMFRP repealed • Local option to use non-adopted materials

  4. New Legislation Senate Bill 1540 (Hancock) • Allows work on the History-Social Science Framework to resume • Updates to mathematics and English language arts frameworks must be completed first

  5. New Legislation Senate Bill 1200 (Hancock) • Directed the State Board to make modifications to the California additions to the Common Core • State Board took action on the mathematics standards on January 16, 2013 • The Board approved the English language arts anchor standards at its meeting on March 13, 2013

  6. New Legislation Senate Bill 1200 (Hancock) • Updates deadlines for new science standards (originally set by Senate Bill 300 in 2011) • California will adopt new standards in science based on the national Next Generation Science Standards by November 30, 2013

English Language DevelopmentSupplemental Instructional Materials Review • To provide schools districts with resources that can help them bridge the gap in their existing adopted ELD instructional materials and the new California ELD standards. The ELD SIMR will develop a list of SBE-approved ELD supplemental instructional materials for K-8. • Districts may use any and all flexible funding (including funding for textbooks-formerly IMFRP), Prop 20 lottery funds, unrestricted general funds, and potentially various federal funds. • The ELD SIMR process Is not a formal adoption, the review is informational only, schools districts do not have to buy these materials.
