  3. “Burden” – Sets the tone for the entire message of Malachi. Malachi – “God’s Messenger”

  4. “I have loved you,” says the LORD. “Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob's brother?” Says the LORD. “Yet Jacob I have loved; But Esau I have hated…” Malachi 1:2-3

  5. When Our Commitment Becomes Casual… We Forget God’s Unconditional Love

  6. "A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 1:6

  7. To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, 'In what way have we despised Your name?' 7 "You offer defiled food on My altar, But say, 'In what way have we defiled You?‘ By saying, ‘The table of the LORD is contemptible.' Malachi 1:6b-7

  8. When Our Commitment Becomes Casual… We Offer Unacceptable Worship

  9. “And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, Is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, Is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?” Says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 1:8

  10. "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you," says the LORD Almighty, "and I will accept no offering from your hands. Malachi 1:10

  11. “My name will be great among the nations, from the rising to the setting of the sun. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to my name, because my name will be great among the nations," says the LORD Almighty.” Malachi 1:11

  12. When Our Commitment Becomes Casual… We Face Unavoidable Discipline

  13. "But you profane it by saying of the Lord's table, 'It is defiled,' and of its food, 'It is contemptible.' 13 And you say, 'What a burden!' and you sniff at it contemptuously," says the LORD Almighty.” Malachi 1:12-13

  14. "Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great king," says the LORD Almighty, "and my name is to be feared among the nations.” Malachi 1:14
