  2. Clarifying expectations • We can all resonate with workplace situations where our own personal expectations were unfulfilled Question: • How do you feel if someone has not delivered what you had expected them to?

Clarifying expectations • Investing the time in our communication with others to clarify and understand expectations will reap huge rewards in terms of time and cost of re-works, and not having to experience negative feelings of disappointment, frustration, or maybe even anger Question: • In what situations at work do you believe it is wise to invest time to clarify expectations?

  4. Beware of making assumptions • ASSUME assumptions make an ass out of you and me!

Clarifying expectations – some examples • Action plan items agreed during management meetings – making sure we’re on the same page • Delegating tasks to others • Setting project deadlines • Content of presentations and reports • Carrying out tasks that your boss has asked you to do • What your peers or co-workers may ask you to do • What your people (individuals and team) have asked you to do for them • In following business processes that may be ambiguous or unclear
