  2. Welcome to Senior Year! Now What? What this presentation will cover: • Naviance • The College Search • Letters of Recommendation • Tests • Scholarship Search • Interest Profiler

Post-Secondary Planning and College… • Two year AND four year schools • Community and technical colleges • Apprenticeships • Training programs for a specific trade or industry • Military, Peace Corps, etc. We’re talking about any training, learning or studying that will help you to prepare for a successful life after high school

  4. Naviance • connection.naviance.com/chsstp • Username & password are the same as your student portal (without zz)

  5. College Search • College Look-up • Type in name of a college • Get admission/academic/financial information about that school • College Search • Enter search criteria that are important to you • Get a list of schools that match your needs/interests • SuperMatch college search For a school you are applying for, be sure to put it in your “Colleges I’m Applying to” list

  6. Counselor Letter of Recommendation • Required if you’re applying with the Common Application. • Fill out the “Counselor Recommendation Questionnaire” (About Me- on the left hand side). • Schedule a half hour appointment with your counselor. • Allow AT LEAST TWO WEEKS for you counselor to write you a letter (FYI, we each write over 70 letters every year…) Make sure to smile and be nice to your counselor.

  7. ACT, SAT, Accuplacer, etc. • Test preparation materials for the ACT available on Naviance • ACT vs. SAT (Fee waivers available for students who qualify, usually based on Free/Reduced Price Lunch status. Talk to your counselor for a waiver). • Accuplacer- scheduled at various times at Central throughout the school year. Admission test for community/technical colleges.

Scholarship Search • Some scholarships located on Naviance- check homepage for link to “Central HS Scholarship Bulletin” • Some schools have individual scholarships offered only for their students- be sure to check with the schools you’re applying to. • Fastweb.com • Central scholarship procedure

  9. Interest Profilers • Do What You Are • Student version of Myers Briggs personality test • Leaves you with a four letter code that suggests careers/professions you might be good at based on your PERSONALITY. • Learning Style Inventory • Gives you an idea of your preferred style of learning
