  1. Replacement Air Filter What to Consider Before Choosing it?

  2. Poor air quality is the worst environmental health risk which results in respiratory diseases such as asthma or allergies. It’s because there are lots of chemicals in the air that are polluting the homes nowadays. Thus, air filters or air purifiers have become a necessity to let you breathe easily in your home or office.

  3. Learn about the things you need to consider when it comes to choosing the right replacement air filter for your home or office HVAC system:

  4. Consider MERV Rating Filters are grouped into various categories on the basis of their MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) ratings. MERV ratings range from 1 to 20. The higher you will choose the MERV rating, the more ability you air filter will be able to capture the dust and other particles.

  5. The filters that come under MERV 1-4 rating will provide you minimum filtration, thus won’t improve the quality of air. The filters that come under MERV 5-8 rating are able to effectively capture small air particles. Filters that fall under MERV 9-12 rating are recommended for the people who are suffering from allergies and asthma or having pets in their home.

  6. MERV 13-16 rating filters are mostly recommended for commercial applications such as hospitals or smoking lounges due to their high level of efficiency. Filters with MERV 17-20 ratings are mostly found in vacuum cleaners because of their higher level of particle absorption capacity.

  7. So, before choosing a replacement air filter for your home or office, never forget to consider the filter’s efficiency. Most homeowners prefer to choose MERV 8 filters, MERV 11 filters, and MERV 13 filters.

  8. Disposable vs. Washable Filters Washable or disposable? Make sure which one you need before buying a replacement air filter. Washable filters are such kind of filters that can be rinsed on a regular basis. After washing, you can put them back on your HVAC system.

  9. They are proposed to get prevention from purchasing the filters again and again after every few months. But the major problem with this type of filters is that they come only in MERV 1-4 ratings, thus have less efficiency to capture the dust particles.

  10. On the other hand, disposable air filters are more airflow restrictive and have the power to hold more airborne particles, dust mites, pet dander, bacteria, and chemicals, thus provides you the fresh air every time. Now, the choice is yours; which one you prefer for your home or office.

  11. Nominal vs. Actual Size Nominal and actual sizes are the important things that you must keep in mind while purchasing an air filter. Most of the people get confused when it comes to the size of furnace air filters. Filters are actually listed by their “Nominal Size” which is a round number.

  12. They are used by manufacturers to simplify the buying process. But the true dimension of your filter is its “Actual Size”. For example, a filter with a nominal size of 20x20x1 has an actual size of 19.5x19.5x0.75. So, measure your air filter by size that it actually has (Actual Size) when shopping the replacement filter.

  13. Air Filter Design Options We know that not all air filters are designed the same and they have different features. So it is the most important question to ask yourself is “what size or type of filter do I need?” while making a choice. There are various types of furnace air filters available in the market according to the design & size requirements, such as
