  1. Advantages of Cold Rolled and Hot Rolled Structural Advantages of Cold Rolled and Hot Rolled Structural Steel Manufacturing Process in Nigeria Steel Manufacturing Process in Nigeria In the 19th century, Leonardo DA Vinci invented the first rolling mill, but few centuries were passed away before the rolling mill became important for the steel industry in the 19th century. In 1979, the Nigerian government signed an agreement for the construction of a steel plant in Nigeria. After iron ore deposits were discovered in the 1950s, the Nigerian First Republic government began active planning and mapping of strategies for local production of iron rods and steel. Cold Roll and Hot Roll manufacturing process These processes are widely used worldwide for manufacturing structural steel for the various industrial applications. These processes are very easy to use, efficient & economical, low maintenance, and a high production rate. These type major methods

  2. are developed to change the manufacturing technology dramatically. The goal was and continues to be a reduction of energy, manpower, and financial investment. Cold Rolled Process The definition Cold rolling is when rolling of the material is completely at room temperature or below the re-crystallization temperature of the material, it is called cold rolling. Obviously, the advantages of hot rolling are absent in cold rolling. The resistance to deformation is more. Furthermore, during rolling, strain hardening takes place, i.e., the strength of the material progressively increases with increase in degree of deformation in the original material. This process is generally used for the manufacturing of sheets, flats, strip, and foil. The advantages of this process are This Process maintains the grain size and thereby reaching the required mechanical properties of the finished rolled material. The grains of the material elongated along the direction of rolling. It increases the hardness and brittleness of the material. Hot Rolled Process In the Hot rolling, the material rolled at a temperature higher than its re-crystallization temperature. Rolling of ingots to blooms and blooms to billets, and further rolling of blooms and billets to different usable products like structural sections, bars, plates, and strips are all rolled through hot rolling. Some of the products produced through the hot rolling process are illustrated. The advantages of this process are In the Hot Rolled, Rolling a material at a temperature higher than its re-crystallization temperature is that a large amount of plastic deformation can be imparted without getting it strain hardening. The compressive force that required for the deformation of the material is comparatively less. That’s why a smaller capacity rolling stand can be used for rolling operation.
