  1. Homework discussion

  2. Crime and deviance at St. Edmunds School! Lesson aim: To understand the impact that crime can have on a small scale

  3. Crime at St. Edmunds School “In my role as the Head Teacher of St. Edmund’s School it is important that I know the most likely locations of crimes that might take place here at school. I would like you to conduct an investigation into where the most crime at St. Edmund’s might take place, and report your findings to me in a letter.”

  4. Planning your investigation... • In your groups brainstorm the following 4 things... • What crime or deviant behaviour might take place at St. Edmund’s? • Where might this crime and deviancy take place? • How are you going to collect your evidence to show Ms. Busby? • How will you show Ms. Busby where crime might take place at school?

  5. Planning your investigation... • Draw up any tally charts or tables you might need to help you collect your information. • Request from your teacher any materials you might need (nothing is guaranteed!) • Make sure you are ready to carry out your investigation next lesson!

  6. Crime and deviance at St. Edmunds School! Lesson aim: To understand the impact that crime can have on a small scale

  7. Carry out your investigation • Respect the fact that other lessons are going on around you. • Do not enter other class rooms (use your own if you need to find information) • Do not invade others privacy (e.g. Toilets!) • Always stay with your group

  8. Carry out your investigation • Make sure you have enough information to provide Ms. Busby with a detailed letter! This could include... • A copy of your tally chart/table • A map of the school site with areas highlighted

  9. Reflecting on last lesson – part 1 • Aim of the lesson: to practise looking back on work you did and evaluating it In your groups think about this question “What went well with your data collection?”

  10. Reflecting on last lesson – part 2 In your groups think about these questions If you were to do the data collection again…. What would you change slightly? What would you not do at all? What would you add in? (Top tip:think about how you collected the data and where you collected it)

  11. Reflecting on last lesson – part 3 • Now on your own write a paragraph or two summing up what you have gained from reflecting on your data collection. If you could include what you think “evaluation” means then that would be even better.

  12. Homework for Wed 28th • Write your letter to Ms. Busby. This could be in your book, handwritten on paper or typed. • You should also include the evidence you have been working on e.g. tally charts, bar charts, map of school

  13. Help with your Homework • What might you first sentence be? • What is your letter about (if it had a title what would it be?) • What are the main points you want to make? You should be able to write a paragraph for each) • What evidence have you got to back up you main points? How can you show this evidence? • How will you sum up your findings in your final paragraph?
