  3. Launceston is a city in the north of the state of Tasmania, at the juncture of the North Esk, South Esk, and Tamar rivers

  5. Launceston is the second largest city in Tasmania after the state capital Hobart. With a population of 103,325 Launceston is the ninth largest non-capital city in Australia

  6. Settled by Europeans in March 1806, Launceston is one of Australia's oldest cities and is home to many historic buildings.

  7. Like many Australian places, it was named after a town in the United Kingdom — in this case, Launceston, Cornwall

  8. The city has a cool temperate climate with four distinct seasons

Tasmanian Memorials - Campbell Town - Convict Brick Trail The trail of bricks is dedicated to the nearly 200.000 convicts who were transported to Australia for almost 100 years from 1788 onwards. Over 70,000 came to Tasmania. Today it is estimated that 80% or 4 out of every 5 Tasmanian have a little convict blood in their veins. The trail begins here at the red bridge, this famous bridge was built entirely with convict labour.
