Vermont Medical School Delves into Marijuana Science

“What we are trying to do with this course, one way to demystify this whole subject, to try to treat the just like any other drug, such as alcohol or amphetamines or uploads,” said Vermont pharmacology professor Wolfgang Dostmann. “Demystifying easy the whole thing and say what it is, what’s going on with him, how it works.”

  1. Vermont Medical School Delves into Marijuana Science

  2. As more states allow the use of medical marijuana is the University of Vermont and offers a course in the science of drug – and the professors say they on by a lack of research, which provided long been a taboo subject in question, Other institutions have offered classes in marijuana law and politics, but the University Medical School should the country the first in the medical cannabis to offer a full course, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges and Universities. Other medical schools have touched on the subject. “What we are trying to do with this course, one way to demystify this whole subject, to try to treat the just like any other drug, such as alcohol or amphetamines or uploads,” said Vermont pharmacology professor Wolfgang Dostmann. “Demystifying easy the whole thing and say what it is, what’s going on with him, how it works.” Twenty-three states, including Vermont, allow the use of medical cannabis for a range of conditions or symptoms of glaucoma in HIV and cancer, although the drug is still under federal law illegal. The Massachusetts Medical Society, an accredited institution that offers online medical marijuana courses, including one on pharmacology, but it is limited to the issue because of the lack of research.

  3. Medical cannabis is clearly a hot topic. Almost 90 graduate and undergraduate students have chosen to Vermont class that begin in the spring, forcing the professors, the classroom to expand twice is signed. The class is also open to the general public, so that the members of the Legislature, or those who want to visit in law enforcement or medicine. Alice Peng, a pharmacology student who wants to study medicine, have signed, because it is interested in the potential for marijuana to treat pain. “I have also work in the cancer center at the hospital, and so I see a lot of cancer patients, and I really interested to see how it would help their chronic pain, would be,” she said. But the professors say that they hampered by a lack of access to high-quality research. “There is so much information out there that it’s just hearsay,” said Vermont pharmacology professor Karen Lansbur. The course will cover Cannabis taxonomy; medicinal chemistry of cannabinoids, the chemicals found in marijuana; physiological effects of the drug; Thresholds therapeutic applications; and the historical, political and socioeconomic influences on marijuana law. Dostmann, whose expertise is in the pharmacokinetics, or how a drug works in the body, and Lounsbury, which focuses on the body’s physiological and biological reaction to a drug is to teach some of the courses.

  4. Students will also benefit from what is happening with marijuana in Vermont. A university research affiliate and Head of Vermont medical marijuana pharmacy will discuss the biology of the plant. An associate business professor who is part of a Vermont speak Think Tank to develop technology to be applications of medical marijuana products Research on the economic impact. Students can also visit the Legislature, which is expected to discuss legalizing marijuana for recreational use. Books exist in the science of marijuana, but they are also on issues such as clean as pipelines or cook with the plant, not what the university wants to teach students. So Lounsbury and Dostmann plan to write their own textbook for future studies. And if the class attracts Kiffer, the professors hope it will motivate to study pharmacology. But above all, hope they can raise awareness about a potentially useful drug. “Without sufficient clinical trials,” Lounsbury said, “We will not really know whether this is true or whether it is a snake oil.” Read more http://www.ganjababy420.com/vermont-medical-school-delves-into-marijuana-science/
