Nikolay Muravyov (1794-1866). A Russian statesman and a military man. He participated in the Siege of Varna in the Russo-Turkish War in 1828–1829, and later in suppression of the November Uprising in Poland in 1831.

  1. Nikolay Muravyov (1794-1866) A Russian statesman and a military man

  2. He participated in the Siege of Varna in the Russo-Turkish War in 1828–1829, and later in suppression of the November Uprising in Poland in 1831. He pursuedin exploration and settlement of the territories north of the Amur River

  3. He favored building of new Christian churches and promoted local religious beliefs such as shamanism and Buddhism.

  4. His first expedition took place in May 1854. The 1855's expedition transported first Russian settlers to the Amur's estuary.

  5. Treaty of Aigun effectively recognized the Amur River as the boundary between Russia and Qing Empire and gave Russia free access to the Pacific Ocean. For this, Muravyov was awarded the title of Count Amursky Nikolay Nikolayevich died on October 18, 1866

  6. After his death a small station on the way to Vladivostok was called in his honour “Muravyov-Amursky”

  7. On the front side of 5000 rouble banknote is the monument to N. N. Muravyov-Amursky This monument stands in Khabarovsk
