  2. Conduct of Those Who Love Their Brethren • Introduction. • A. John 13:35, "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Not just by the sign on the building!

  3. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • B. Not only by the other 16 character-istics of the N. T. church: Founder, Foundation, Doctrine, Worship, Organ-ization, Work, etc.

  4. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • C. But by their “love” toward each other. • What is “love”? Good will, act of the intellect and will (not merely an expression of the emotions). • Known by its actions, Jn. 3:16; 1 Cor. 13:4-7. (By what it does and does not do).

  5. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • I. What is the conduct of those who do NOT love their brethren? • A. Titus 3:3, “malice, envy … hating one another.” • 1 Cor. 3:1-3, “carnal… envy, strife and divisions…” Act just like worldly people.

  6. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • B. Gal. 5:15, “if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!” • This sounds like wild beasts. • Or two snakes that swallow each other.

Gal. 5:26, “Let us not become conceited, provoking one another.” • We try to excuse ourselves: “Shouldn’t be so sensitive, so thin-skinned…” • But it’s wrong to be offensive and insulting. This is carnality. (5:20, causes hatred, contentions, etc.). • Prov. 18:19, hard to win the offended.

  8. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • D. James 4:11, “Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. 5:9, Do not complain, brethren, against one another.” • If we do it, it is hypocrisy to say “brothers” which indicates a spiritual relationship in Christ.

  9. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • E. Gen. 13:8, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, for we are brothers.” • We’re sons of God; so we are brothers (and sisters) in Christ.

  10. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • II. Conduct of those who DO love their brethren. • A. Rom. 12:10, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love.” • 1 Pet. 3:8, “love as brothers, be tender-hearted, be courteous.”

  11. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • B. Rom. 16:16, “Greet one another with a holy kiss.” • 1 Pet. 5:14, “Greet one another with a kiss of love.” Not like Judas.

  12. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • C. 1 Cor. 12:25, “that there should be no division (faction) in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.”

  13. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • D. Eph. 4:2, “with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love.” • Eph. 4:4, “one body” – of Jews, Gentiles, Samaritans, masters/slaves, rich/poor, etc.

  14. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • There should not be separate churches for different races, colors, economic or academic levels. There’s just one body.

  15. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • The use of different languages should not hinder fellowship among brethren. We should visit gospel meetings, understand and participate all we can. Support with presence, greet, sing, listen …

  16. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • E. Eph. 4:30, “do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God…” How do we avoid this? • V. 31, “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.” • V. 32, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another just as God in Christ also forgave you.”

  17. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • In any congregation there will be differences and disagreements, but these must be resolved in a brotherly manner.

  18. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • F. 1 Thess. 4:18, “comfort one another with these words. • 1 Thess. 5:11, “encourage one another and build up one another.”

  19. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • G. Philemon 7, “the hearts of the saints have been refreshed (Mat. 11:28) by you, brother.” • What do brethren say after our visit? • Refreshed? Or glad they’re gone?

  20. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • H. Hebrews 3:13, “exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” • And we should all accept the exhortation of our brethren, Heb. 13:22 • Should GIVE and RECEIVE exhortation

  21. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • I. Hebrews 10:24, “let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,” does not end with period. • How? V. 25, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” • Those who miss do not “consider” their brethren! They’re inconsiderate.

  22. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • J. James 5:16, “confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another.” • Not try to blame someone else. • Not make excuses to justify ourselves. • Not commit another sin (lie) to cover the first one. • Prov. 28:13, cover or confess?

  23. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • K. Gal. 5:13, “through love serve one another.” The best way to promote harmony in the congregation. • Family of Stephanas, 1 Cor. 16:15; Rom. 16:1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12; Phil. 4:3, etc.

  24. The Conduct of Those Who Love their Brethren • Conclusion. • Love is known by what it does NOT do and by what it DOES do. • Without Bible love (good will, good attitude) we are nothing, 1 Cor. 13:3; John 13:35.
