  3. Polarity When two different atoms are covalently bonded, the atoms in the bond will always be more electronegative than the other. Electronegativity

  4. Electronegativities and bond energies in carbon-halogen bonds • As we go down the group from fluorine to iodine: • The carbon-halogen bonds get weaker (easier to break) • The bonds get less polar and therefore the carbon becomes less easily attacked by negatively charged species (nucleophile)
