Living for God: Loving His People Mark 12:28-34Rev. Adam K. Sellen
Our Mission: Make Disciples All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. ~Matthew 28:18-20~
And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” ~v. 28~
Our Vision The Great Commandment
The Great Commandment Love God—v. 29-30 We love because He first loved us. ~1 John 4:19~
The Great Commandment Love Neighbors—v. 31
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove
mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. ~1 Corinthians 13:1-3~
The Great Commandment More Than Knowledge And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him.
And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” And when Jesus saw that he
answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions. ~v. 32-34~
What This Looks Like • Individually • Corporately
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~Hebrews 12:2 NIV~
