  2. The Star By Ann Taylor, Jane Taylor TWINKLE, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are ! Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky. When the blazing sun is gone, When he nothing shines upon, Then you show your little light, Twinkle, twinkle, all the night. Then the trav'ller in the dark, Thanks you for your tiny spark, He could not see which way to go, If you did not twinkle so. In the dark blue sky you keep, And often thro' my curtains peep, For you never shut your eye, Till the sun is in the sky. 'Tis your bright and tiny spark, Lights the trav'ller in the dark : Tho' I know not what you are, Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

  3. Poems speaker • I believe that the speaker was about someone going through tough times. The poet talks about “When the blazing sun is gone, When he nothing shines upon”, which in my opinion is saying that God was there when nobody else was.

  4. Authors purpose The author talks about a “Star”, which I interpreted to be God. I believe the purpose would be her trying to cope with losing someone, or going through a time of depression. She talks about him being there for her when nobody else is, so I thought it was her way of coping.

  6. Biographical info. • She and her sister created a literary group (Umbelliferous Society) • 1799- one of her poems was published in the “Minors Pocket Book”. Her poem “The Crippled Childs Complaint” won first place.

  13. Then the trav'ller in the dark, Thanks you for your tiny spark, He could not see which way to go, If you did not twinkle so. Literal- the traveler is walking in the dark, thanks the star for shining. Figurative- he’s thanking god for staying by her side
