  2. About Francois Viete • Born in 1540 to 23-2-1603 • French Mathetician • New Algebra (important step towards to modern algebra) • Graduated as a Bachelor of law in 1559 • Began his career as an attorney in his native town.

About Hans Freudenthal • Born in 17-9-1905 to 13-10-1990 • Dutch mathetician • Made substantial contribution to algebraic topology. • Interest in literature, philosophy, history and mathematic. • His single-handed intervention prevented the Netherlands from following the worldwide trend of “New Math” • Awarded the GoudenGanzenveer award in 1984.

  4. What do they contribute in Mathematic • Significant contribution were in trigonometry, algebra and geometry most. • Major contribution is in his innovative treatment of algebraic equation. • Contribute to intuitionism, as well to the application of mathematics to linguistics.

  5. Comparison between them • Francois:- good relationship between the royal family. - Being tutor and teaching Science and Mathematics. - invented the “new algebra” • Hans Freudenthal: - interest in other things instead of Math. – Found IOWO at Utrecht University, and it changed the name to his name. – 1970s, his intervention prevented the Netherlands from following the world wide trend of “new math”
