Information Security • Information Security – protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction in order to provide – • Integrity – guarding against improper modification or destruction and ensures authenticity. • Confidentiality – preserving authorized restrictions on access, including protecting personal privacy. • Availability – ensuring timely and reliable access.

  6. US Defense Information Security Agency (DISA) • 12 May 1960 - Defense Communications Agency (DCA) established by Secretary of Defense Thomas S. Gates. • 25 June 1991 – became the DISA and the Global Information Grid was designed. • 16,000 employees that support all US Military branches. • SIPRNET – Secret Internet Protocol Router Network • Forge.mil – fashioned after sourceforge.net

  8. United States Cyber Command • 23 June 2009 – established under the U.S. Strategic Command by Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates • Assumed responsibility for the DISA • Headquartered in Ft. Meade, Maryland
