  1. Icarus detector‘’dismantling’’ JL Grenard, C. Bertone

  2. ICARUS detector feet • There are 10 bolted and pinned supports between the structure and the cryostat. All are underneath. Pins impossible to remove • There are 2 fixed supports in the middle of the structure, one per each side • There are 4+4 ‘sliding’ supports (2+2 per each side) • The 2+2 sliding supports that are on the extremity are accessible by the outside by the ‘trou d’homme’ • The 6 remaining supports (2 fix and 4 sliding) needs to enter the detector and dismantle a part of the race track to unbolt them

  3. Disconnection of the sliding feet • Unscrewing the supporting points • This permits to lift the detector by extracting the sphere 4 screws to be removed

  4. Disconnection of the fix point • Removal of the 2 small screw to free the big bolt • Unscrewing of the two bolts to increase the gap for the lifting • This permits to lift the structure out of this support

  5. Opening of the cryostat • Need to dismount 0.5m of ‘’pipes’’ on the sides and on the floor to access at the support points on each side. To be done on the ‘’bolted’’ side of the cryostat. For the other side, access by the trou d’homme on the cryostat is enought

  6. Extraction • Lifting with 8 hydraulics jacks (close to the supporting points) • The main part of the feet will stay in place. need to lift ~50mm to pass over those • Installation of some sliding block on the structure and some rails between the cryostat Fix part remaining in the cryostat

  7. Extraction • Pulling out of the detector to the ‘’transport frame’’ -The frame will be completely enclosed for a clean transport -Total weight for handling <40t

  8. What next? • Design of transport feet • Design and dimensioning of transport box: • Drawings of interface with transport structures is missing • Information about maximum sagitta admissible for the integrity of the wires is missing
