Children and teens need 60 minutes of activity a day to promote good health. Even thirty to sixty minutes of activity broken into smaller segments of 10 or 15 minutes throughout the day has significant health benefits. (President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports)
What is FitFactor? • One element of the Air Force Youth Fitness and Health Initiative • Promote and sustain youth fitness programming • 84 Air Force bases world-wide • Serve 70,000 youth – ages 5-18 years • Program Goals – ages 9-18 years • Increase physical fitness activity • Increase awareness of proper nutrition • Increase Youth Center membership
Web and Incentive-Based Program www.afgetfit.com • 150 activities • Individual • League sports • Instructional classes • School activities • Weekly, monthly, annual programs • Youth log in points based on daily activity • Can achieve 5 different levels • Receive small incentive at each level for their achievements

How was FitFactor introduced to AF staff? • September 05 training at Kirtland Air Force Base • 250 youth program staff • Three-day training included: • FitFactor implementation • Educational sessions • Physical activity, health and nutrition • Fitness, programming • Fun, outdoor fitness event with competitions • Vendor exhibits • Keynote address - Dr. Dot Richardson, Olympic gold medalist
FitFactor Connections • Youth Sports Programs • Outdoor Recreation • Bowling centers and Golf courses • Schools, 4-H, B&GCA, Camps • IDS (Integrated Delivery System) • HAWC • Local community activities
4-H & FitFactor Connections One of three 4-H clubs required on each AF base is in the area of Health, Fitness and Nutrition – a natural fit with FitFactor Other 4-H opportunities: • Cooking Clubs & Nutrition classes • Bicycling, Hiking, Skateboarding Clubs, etc • Curriculum and resources • Staff training and research • Points earned for participating in 4-H camps, activities, etc
B&GCA & FitFactor Connections Boys & Girls Clubs of America offer several resources and opportunities for youth to be active and earn FitFactor points B&GCA opportunities: • Triple Play • Fitness Authority • Teen Sports Clubs • Daily Challenges • Camps and Institutes
Air Force Wide FitFactor Numbers • Program started 1 October 05 • 5,200 youth enrolled a/o 30 Nov 05 • 1,100 youth achieved the Energy level (1st) • 350 youth achieved the Strength level (2nd) • Every AFB has youth participation! Get Up, Get Out and Get Fit!
