  1. The dragnet and scribe parables Matthew 13:47-52

  2. Introduction • Two more short parables • Continuation of the definition of the Kingdom of Heaven

  3. The Dragnet • Culture – how did fisherman catch and process fish? • The Twist – God is the fisherman here (Jesus said His disciples were the fisherman)

  4. The Scribe • Culture – what did Scribes do? • In the time of Kings they were managers and financial advisors • In the Exile time they became historians, wrote the traditions and ceremonies of the faith so the faith did not disappear in Babylon • In Jesus’ day – identified as Pharisees, guardians of the Torah and Laws • The Twist – Scribes who are described as “anti-Jesus” can be a part of the Kingdom of Heaven

  5. For Us Today • Knowing Scripture is needed to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Old Testament) • Scripture is the definition of the Kingdom of Heaven (New Testament)
