  11. Policy • The Finnish constitution was adopted in 1919. From this moment Finland is the republic. Supreme executive power is vested in the president, elected for six-year term by direct popular vote. • Today legislative power is divided between the president and the parliament. • Government is headed by the Prime Minister who runs the country.
