  4. HOWEVER: It’s important to emphasize • This was not a happily-ever-after story in any way. • The Native Americans were NOT treated well. • Many died of diseases brought by the pilgrims • We repeatedly kicked them off their land • They still live in “reservations” and struggle to be successful.

  5. Today, Thanksgiving is a time for families to be thankful for what they have.

  6. Most common foods… can you guess them?

  7. One of thebiggestdebates: Doyoulikeinsideoroutsidestuffing????

  8. Thanksgiving Traditions • TURKEY!!! (Oftenjustcalled „The Bird”) • And „carvingthebird” is a bigdeal…whocarvesit is often a sign of theheadofthefamily. • Spending time with family/extended family. • It’s one of the biggest travel days of the year in the US as people get home to their families. • Macy’s Day Parade in NYC • AMERICAN FOOTBALL!!! • Eating until you are totally STUFFED. • Napping (falling asleep) because you are so full. • Then still eating ONE LAST PIECE of pumpkin pie with whipped cream.  • The Wishbone • Some families include breaking the turkey's wishbone as part of their celebration. The wishbone is found attached to the breast meat in the turkey's chest. After the meat has been removed and the wishbone has had a chance to become dry and brittle, two people each take one end of the bone, make a wish, and pull. Whoever ends up with the larger part of the bone gets their wish!
