  2. This presentation gives a brief description of Oxford Bibliographies Online It tells you what Oxford Bibliographies Online is how it can help you how to look for information in it The presentation will take about 4 minutes

  3. Oxford Bibliographies Online is a tool designed to help busy researchers find reliable sources of information in half the time by directing them to exactly the right chapter, book, website, archive or data set they need for their research. Each subject launches with between 50-100 articles or entries, which is equivalent to a 4-volume print encyclopedia. In each subject module, leading scholars from institutions around the world have produced a literary guide to the most important and significant sources in an area of study that they know best. All entries receive multiple peer reviews and editorial board vetting to provide reliable and balanced coverage. OBO is updated regularly, with 50-75 articles added per year to each subject area. Updates will also include revisions to existing articles. As of July 2011, OBO has 17 live modules with another 16 set to launch in 2011-12. ‘My OBO’ allows you to create a personalized list of citations, save searches, and add annotations.

  4. Oxford Bibliographies Online differs from most bibliographical resources in several ways: It is selective, rather than exhaustive. It provides expert recommendations with critical supportive text and annotation. The full context allows for understanding connections between citations. It includes cataloging of non-print material, especially online resources. Linking on multiple levels facilitates movement to other resources, whether online or available through a library’s catalogue.

  5. Navigating the site is simple. Select the module or modules you are interested in, then either use the search box at the top right, or browse to see the contents of that module.

  6. In the right column, you can navigate to other topics in the module,… …editorially chosen related entries,… …and the other modules. Each topic has a broadly similar table of contents, with an introduction, a list of introductory works, general overviews, data sources (if relevant) and then specific sub-topics.

  7. Notice the links to help find the resource. Scroll down for the rest of the topic or use the shortcuts in the Table of Contents to jump to the relevant section on the page.

  8. You can find more information about the topic author,… …the module as a whole,…

  9. …the Editor in Chief,… …and the Editorial Board.
