On December 27, 2009, a significant event took place in Hong Kong's history as the Shia Asna-I-Ashri Association Limited organized its first-ever Juloos-e-Aza for the 9th Muharram, 1431H. This gathering drew together the community to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) through traditional practices such as Alam procession, banners, Noha Khwani, and Matam. Held at the Imam Bargah, this momentous occasion highlighted the vibrant Shia culture and the commitment to preserving religious observances in the city, which is a key gateway to China.

Context • Hong Kong is home to about 7 million people and is considered gateway to China. It is a highly developed economy. Trading and Financial sectors of HK are amongst the world’s biggest • Hong Kong Shia Asna-I-Ashri Association Limited was established around 1985 • At the Imam Bargah, Majalis are held in Muharram and on Viladat and Shahadat of all Masoomeen (AS) • A Juloos-e-Aza was taken out today i.e. 9th Muharram 1431H (27 December 2009) for the first time in Hong Kong’s history. • Alam and banners were taken out and Noha Khwani & Matam by Azadar-e-Hussain
