Purpose Provide an overview of Area Support Team Balkans support relationships, contract management oversight, and the roles of assigned personnel in support of Multi National Battle Group-East (MNBG-E).

AST Balkans Mission Area Support Team Balkans is the base operations command at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo with a forward operating office at Camp Butmir, Bosnia. Our mission as USAREUR’s Executive Agent is to support contingency operations in the Balkans; supervise and direct base camp activities; implement policies, procedures, and programs to ensure the safety and security of all Camp Bondsteel occupants; exercise Title 10 responsibilities for all US forces in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina; perform oversight of all US Army convoys and transit activities in support of KFOR and headquarters NATO Mission-Sarajevo within the Balkans Area of Operations; and serve as the channel through which USAREUR provides technical oversight, expertise, and assistance to Multi-National Battle Group – East at Camp Bondsteel.

AST Balkans Focus

The Future As We Know It When U.S. Maneuver and supporting elements of Multi-National Battle Group-East (MNBG-E) are no longer required in Gate 3, the U.S. Army will have no operational requirement for Camp Bondsteel. Therefore, pursuant to U.S. regulations, Camp Bondsteel must be transferred or deconstructed. Obtain disposition and complete shipments of equipment/ vehicles as directed by USAREUR/21st TSC. Conduct final environmental assessments. Deconstruct remainder of Bondsteel. Return land to original condition or negotiate settlements with land owners. Gate 3 is projected within the next two years, based on current information.
