  3. Langston Hughes Born in 1902 in Joplin, Missouri Published first poem in 1921, The Negro Speaks of Rivers Wrote of African Americans daily lives, their anger, and their love

  4. “Harlem” Take out a piece of paper. Read the poem, Page 255 in supplemental text Jot down some of your initial reactions. Why has the dream been deferred? What does Hughes mean by explode? Any other prevalent imagery? Remember to show evidence from text!!!
