  2. Daily Plan your day with the student Discuss treatment options As the student gets to know the patients 1. Ask them how they would progress the treatment plan 2. What are some concerns they might have about this patient since their last visit?

Daily Try to avoid “clone” treatments As long as patient is safe AND the student can give rationale then…. • Try ideas that are different from yours • If the treatment is noteffective, provide suggestions • Review your schedule for opportunities to progress student • Allow extra time for learning opportunities

  4. Multidisciplinary Care • Provide Opportunities for student to spend time with other disciplines • Have the student participate in team meetings- present cases • Discuss possible in-service opportunities

  5. Encourage Student Self Assessment • What went well and areas do you need to improve • This should be done after visits, end of the day and each week. • Give clear feedback on goals

  7. Odds and Ends Utilize down time for education Driving time, breaks, “no-shows” Do not get bogged down with the un-necessaries (signing consent form, etc.)

  8. Odds and Ends • Keep a notebook handy for items that you want to discuss with the student but were not essential during the treatment • Progress the student toward point of service documentation • Set time oriented goals for treatment and documentation- be reasonable

  9. Odds and Ends • Consider having the student document point of service while you treat ( you can learn from what they did or did not observe) And • You document point of service while they treat.

  10. Have fun • This is an important experience that you are providing for this student. • They really want to know what you know- your clinical reasoning your methods • They want to treat patients and to be effective
