  1. הֶוֵי דָן אֶת כָּל הָאָדָם לְכַף זְכוּת Adina Broder

  2. Good Shabbos, Shira. What’s wrong? Malka was supposed to come over today, but she didn’t show up.

  3. I bet Malka saw a friend in shul and is hanging out with her instead.

  4. You don’t know that Malka is playing with someone else. You’ll call her after Shabbos and find out what happened.

  5. I’m not going to call. She’ll have to call and apologize if she ever wants to be my friend again!

  6. Chazal tell us: הֶוֵי דָן אֶת כָּל הָאָדָם לְכַף זְכוּת What does that mean?

  7. That means that we should give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I still don’t understand.

  8. Well, if we have a doubt about something that someone did, like, if we don’t know why someone did something…

  9. We shouldn’t assume that the person did something wrong; We should assume that there was a good reason for it.

  10. Hmm… so in this case, I shouldn’t assume that Malka ditched me for someone else. I should think that maybe she had a good reason for not coming. That’s exactly right!

  11. On motzeishabbat…

  12. …You’re right, Malka. I’m so sorry.

  13. So, what did Malka say? Uhh… this is kind of embarrassing. I forgot that I was supposed to go to her house. She wasn’t supposed to come here.

  14. Oh. But she did that דָן לְכַף זְכוּת thing.

  15. Oh? How did she give you the benefit of the doubt? She didn’t think I ditched her. She figured that I wasn’t feeling well, and that’s why I didn’t come.

  16. She’s a good friend. Yes, she is. I’m going to learn to always give people the benefit of the doubt, too!

  17. הֶוֵי דָן אֶת כָּל הָאָדָם לְכַףזְכוּת Give everyone the benefit of the doubt
