Course Overview (part I) • A direct continuation of 142 • Review old 142 exams to see if you're ready! • More advanced programming • Software engineering concepts • Abstraction, modularity, information hiding • Abstract data types • Data Structures • Lists, stacks, queues, trees, hash tables • Dynamic memory management

  4. Course Overview (part II) • Recursion • Algorithms • Searching, Sorting • Performance Analysis • Object-Oriented Programming • Note: No mention so far of C++ (nor of C, Ada, etc)

Textbooks • Required: Headington and Riley, Data Abstraction and Structures Using C++, DC Heath, 1994. • Course packet: W98 lecture slides • Recommended: Lippman, C++ Primer, Addison-Wesley, 1991 (but don't rush out...) • Readings (to be done before lecture) are marked in Web lecture schedule and lecture slides.

  6. Grading Approximate percentages: • 5 projects 35% • Two midterm exams 15% each • Final exam 25% • 4-6 quizzes 5% • Other 5%
