  2. Introduction Graduate Student AssociationWe organize social and service events to promote relationships between grad students, the university and the community. We advocate for graduate students through the Graduate Leadership Council. Officers, 2013-2014 • President – Stephanie Brehm • Advocacy Chairs – Pritha Ghosh and Deniz Alpay • Service Chairs – Janet Bourne and Roman Kazantsev • Social Chairs – Jeremy Needle and Jia Wu • Treasurer – Zafir Zaman • Secretary – Nancy Auyeng • Communications Officer – Xi Chen

GLC vs GSA Graduate Leadership Council • Liaise between graduate students and TGS administration on issues reported to us through the survey as well as via department reps. • Delegates are members of 8 different graduate student organizations and hold monthly meetings in which solutions are sought to the most pertinent issues of graduate and professional students Co-presidents: Deniz Alpay, Keila Torre-Santiago Treasurer: Stephanie Brehm Communications Chair: Pritha Gosh Department Representative Coordinator: Kristi Ward NAGPS Liaison: Resham Singh

  6. GSA Advocacy Chairs Primary Roles: Serve as the voice of the TGS graduate departments to Graduate Leadership Council Actively participate in GLC coordination, survey-creation, and other advocacy initiatives

  14. GSA Spring Service Events CPR Training (all begin @ 2PM) Dates: May 15 June 3 July 22 5K / 10K at the lake fill May 10th race date Registration now open!

  15. GSA Treasurer • Treasurer Responsibilities: • Preparing the annual budget request and submitting it to TGS • Maintaining the budget and making adjustments as necessary • Completing reimbursements in a timely manner • Planning financial seminars

  16. GSA Treasurer Upcoming Initiatives/Events • Treasurer Events/Initiatives: • Spring Financial Seminar • Basic Financial Planning • Tuesday, May 6th 12-1pm Seabury Graduate Student Commons • Working with University Career Services • Working with Alumni Association • Professionalization Events

  17. GSA Secretary Primary Roles: • Taking notes at exec board meeting • Organizing shared information and files on Google Drive • Maintain the records of the Graduate Student Association.

Communications Officer • Primary Roles: • Checks and Responds to GSA E-mail every day. • Writes the bi-weekly newsletter detailing different events and notifications for graduate students and sends it out to the graduate student population. • Sends announcement on the day of GSA event. • --Email • --Twitter • Updates Plan-it Purple Calendar with GSA Events. • Manage people on the listserv--subscribe or unsubscribe the newsletter. • Updates the website with the most recent information.

  19. GSA President Primary Roles: • Lead executive board meetings • Participate in GLC-advocacy • Represent GSA whenever required • Delegate and coordinate events/budget/etc…

President’s Initiatives/Events • Thank you for an AMAZING First Annual Northwestern University Graduate Student Appreciation Week April 7-11 • Interested in seeing improv comedy May 30 or May 31? GSA and SPG Improv are co-sponsoring to get group rates. Email Stephaniebrehm2016@u.northwestern.edu. Students will be paying for their own tickets at the group rates.
