  3. 09.MART WORLD DAY OF SLOW LIFE

  4. The Slow Movement started with the organization in Italy in 1986. Founded by Carlo Petrini, Slow Food began a resistance movement against McDonalds and other fast food chains. Slow Food stressed the importance of the bioregion an area of land relied on for natural food from animals, plants, and seeds. Petrini began the movement in protest of the unhealthy foods served at fast food restaurants. He fought for the resurgence of national foods and cultural cuisines—particularly relevant in his home country, Italy.

  5. Slow Travel This organization stresses the slowing down of the act of traveling. A fast pace in travel will miss the details that make traveling worthwhile. A slow pace will encourage art, nature, and culture. This Slow Travel movement was subsequently complimented by movements in many other slow areas: Slow Design, Slow Sport, Slow Shopping, and Slow Work, among others.

  6. The Slow Movement • gained an important ally in 1999 with the establishment of The World Institute of Slowness. This institute, founded by Geir Berthelsen, supported a more enriched life via the Slow Movement. The philosophy of the World Institute of Slowness encouraged care, love, nearness, reflection, and togetherness.

  7. The World Institute of Slowness • was soon followed in the Slow Movement by Cittaslow in Italy. This movement encouraged a cultural slowing down of life in cities and towns, originally throughout Italy. After converting more than 30 cities in Italy, Cittaslow has moved through the rest of Europe, from the United Kingdom, to Germany, Austria, Norway, and Spain.

  8. Slow Movement • Supporters of the Slow Movement do not stress a jump to the past, but a slowing down of life in a modern world, for an increase of quality, in food, work, retail, and life, by a decrease in speed. The Slow Movement philosophy calls for a more enjoyable life through improvements in every venue of living, from sex to parenting to medicine.

  9. 9th March 2009: Third Global Day of Slow Living • The Art of Slow Living voluntary association convene the Third Global  Day of Slow Living. For all those who want to “slow down to live better” the day will be 9th March 2009. Everybody knows how it's hard to slow down our everyday urban lifestyle: nevertheless after Milan and New York this year location will be Tokyo.

  10. TOKIO 2010 • This huge city will be the most media – resounding location among many strategic points throughout the world where the events spontaneously organized through the Network will take place. All these initiatives will be reported on the website www.vivereconlentezza.it

  11. In our everyday life we have to compare with a world which constantly grows in complexity and velocity. We believe that slowing down is the first step for a better living, surpassing  troubles and states of uncertainty , finding new solutions and make up for the lost confidence in the future, even during the economic crisis we are all living now.

  12. Global Day of Slow Living • The next economic and social miracle will be made by thousands of individual actions conduced by people all around the world who believe in these principles. That's why we organize the Global Day of Slow Living,  an itinerant event that every year culminates in a different city. This year our network will speak English on the web www.slowliving.info.
