  2. Carp symbolism In the Far East the carp is a symbol of good luck and a long life. In mythology it is a riding animal and messenger of the gods. In some stories a message or seal is found in a carp's stomach. In Japan and also in China it is a symbol of intelligence, courage and endurance because it swims against the flow of the river. The Bambara of Sudan consider it a symbol of both material and spiritual abundance. Carp in dreams Seeing a carp in a dream is considered to be a sign of good luck. A carp in a dream can sometimes speak; when this happens it is believed that your soul is trying to speak to your conscious self.

  3. Koi have the affections of Japanese people since they have been kept as pets for nearly 800 years. On the public festival known as Children's Day, children fly tubular flags fashioned and painted like koi, in the hope that they too will grow up as strong and good as koi. The history of koi goes back further in China, where the legend of koi that migrate up the waterfalls of the Yellow River turn into dragons when they reach 100 years of age, dates back to prehistory.

  4. Fish in Chinese sounds like the word for "Abundance and Affluence" so the fish symbolizes wealth. Fish shown with a lotus blossom symbolize "Year after Year may you live in Affluence". Paintings featuring Koi Carp are considered symbolic of good fortune in business or academic life

  5. Goldfish Carassius auratus

  6. Goldfish symbolism The goldfish is considered to be a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, beauty and harmony. In China it is a symbol of prosperity because the word for goldfish sounds like the phrase "gold in abundance". Some say that to dream of a goldfish means that you are stuck in a spiritually confining situation or belief. This is probably because the goldfish is associated with the far too small fish bowls in which it is often kept.
