  2. S.A.V.E. Overview • - Passed by N.Y. State Legislature in 2001 • - The Law Incorporates: • School Safety Plans • Additional School Safety Resources • Codes of Conduct • Child Abuse in and Educational Setting • Fingerprinting Regulations • School Violence Prevention

District Wide Safety Plan • S.A.V.E. requires the GCSD to establish district-wide school safety and building-level school safety teams to develop district-wide and building-level school safety plans; and • Address crisis intervention, emergency response and management at the district level through comprehensive, multi-hazard school safety plans. • The law also requires GCSD to submit copies of the plans to local emergency responders (police and fire)

  4. 2011 Amendments to S.A.V.E. • The law now limits public availability to information contained in the plans. Information deemed confidential includes: • Home telephone numbers of local officials • Tactical strategies for responding to critical events such as building evacuation and sheltering in place. • The overall GCSD. Safety Plan is available to the public. However, each individual building plan within the GCSD. are considered protected and confidential.

  5. 2013-2014 S.A.V.E. Goals of GCSD • The overall GCSD Emergency Plan is currently being reviewed and will be updated. • A standardized format for each of the districts buildings safety plans will be adopted and implemented. While each plan will differ in content, the format will be consistent. This will be accomplished by using team members from each of the buildings safety committees.
