  2. The surname Bolívar derives from the Bolívar aristocratswho came from a small village in the Basque Country, Spain, called La Puebla deBolívar. His father came from the male line of the Ardanza family.

  3. His maternal grandmother was descended from some families from the Canary Islands that settled in the country. The Bolívars settled in Venezuela in the sixteenth century. His first South American Bolívar ancestor was Simón de Bolívar (or Simon de Bolibar; the spelling was not standardized until the nineteenth century), who went to live and work with the governor of Santo Domingo from 1550 to 1570.

  4.  When the governor of Santo Domingo was reassigned to Venezuela by the Spanish Crown in 1589, Simón de Bolívar came back with him. As an early settler in Caracas Province, he became prominent in the local society and he and his descendants were granted estates, encomiendasand positions in the Caracas cabildo.

South Dakota historian Doane Robinson is credited with conceiving the idea of carving the likenesses of famous people into the Black Hills region of South Dakota in order to promote tourism in the region. Robinson's initial idea was to sculpt theNeedles; however, Gutzon Borglum rejected the Needles site because of the poor quality of the granite and strong opposition from Native American groups.

MartinLuther Luther taught that salvationand subsequently eternity in heaven is not earned by good deeds but is received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ as redeemer from sin and subsequently eternity in hell.  His theology challenged the authority of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only sourceof divinely revealed knowledge from God and opposed sacerdotalismby considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood. Those who identify with these, and all of Luther's wider teachings, are called Lutherans.
