  3. School Information • Please read the parent letter regarding the physical education requirements • School Hours are 8:00AM – 2:20 PM. • School Phone Number: 718-447-4543 • The school website: www.PS39R.org

Things To Know • Mrs. Pires and Ms. Murphy can be reached via email or school phone number. • All students MUST be prepared on they day(s) they have physical education. • Any student NOT wearing sneakers can not participate in physical education due to safety and will be given an alternate activity. • Physical Education Policy: • SNEAKERS: with Laces or Velcro (no slip-ons) • School polo, sweatpants, skirt with shorts underneath, leggings, or shorts. • NO JEANS and LIMITED JEWLERY

Things We Learn Grades K-1 • Loco-motor Movements (walk, run, hop, jump, skip, leap, gallop) • Skill related fitness components- Balance, agility, power, coordination, speed, reaction time • Health related fitness components- cardiovascular, muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, body composition • Manipulative Skills- underhand throw, overhand, kicking, trapping, striking underhand • Stability Skills- scooters, beanbag games • Rhythm, Dance, Yoga • Combined Movement- parachute, tee-ball, relay races, jump ropes, self and partner catch

Things We Learn Grades 2-3 • Health- Related Fitness and Movement Skills- 5 components of Fitness and F.I.T.T Principles • Ball Skills- Football ( over arm throwing),Soccer ( kicking, trapping, passing), Basketball ( dribble, pass, shoot), Bowling ( rolling), Volleyball ( bump, set, underhand serve) Kickball ( kicking) • Dance -freeze dance and Zumba for kids • Yoga – pose sequence • Sidearm striking, Throwing, and Batting- Wiffleball, handball, frisbee, floor hockey, golf

Things We Learn Grades 4-5 • Aerobic Fitness- F.I.T.T Principles , Fitness stations • Football- throwing, catching, running, kicking off a tee and punting • Soccer- kicking, trapping, dribbling with feet, shooting, and goalkeeping • Basketball- ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting • Dance and Yoga • Volleyball- bump, set, and underhand serve • Badminton- forehand, backhand stroke, and serve • Wiffleball- running bases, batters stance, hitting off tee • Kickball • Handball • Floor Hockey
