  2. The Orbach Challenge (Charge): What is the statusof original goal? (Evaluate Computational Models for GTL) Would it be possible to accelerate progress by targeted ASC Science Programs (applied math, computer science and scientific computing)/ Are long term ASCR goals are too ambitious? Are there possible / other intermediate goals, notably given lack of community buy in? What are the key computational obstacles in developing computer models for the major biological understandings necessary to characterize and engineer microbes for DOE missions in biofuels and bioremediation?

Context for Orbach AC Charge: the Long Term Goals of the Office of Science By 2015, ASCR: Demonstrate progress to developing, through the Genomes to Life partnership with Biological and Environmental Research, the computational science capability to model a complete microbe and a simple microbial community.
