  9. Cyclic Batches  We don’t have any concept of a fixed start date or an end date.  Every class is a stand alone class. A particular class has no relevance with the previous or the next class.  So whenever you start, that becomes the first class of your cycle.  You need to complete one full cycle of classes.  Every quant & verbal class is repeated after every 2-3 months. Hence a missed class can be covered very soon.  The cyclic nature of classes will give you flexibility of starting the program anytime as per your schedule. 9

  14. Importance of GRE TRANING  Conceptual understanding  Direction and regularity  Comparative performance  Pool of students to interact with 14

  15. Authentic GRE material Basic • Kaplan GRE math & verbal work books • Nova GRE • Princeton review GRE Advance • Barrons GRE • The Big book • Kaplan GRE premier program • Orkut threads • Mitul’s hard math & hard verbal questions  Don’t use hard copies of books. Use only “soft copies” from day 1 so that you get accustomed to read, learn, practice & solve questions directly from the computer screen..  Newer editions doesn’t mean different and better questions15

  16. Please DON’T refer to : CAT material R.S. Aggrawal books Any non-authentic GRE material 16

  17. 4 Golden Tips... 17

  18. 1 : Don’t be “penny wise pound foolish” To students who have already scored decent on GRE or a 95+ percentile in CAT and hence absolutely confident abt their concepts and approach, we generally recommend not to take any coaching as just preparing from our “GRE power dvd” will suffice. We give all the necessary guidance required to go about the power dvd and draft a rough study plan for them. • • Those who haven’t been exposed to any kind of “entrance” training earlier definitely should not take any chance. They not only miss out on learning important concepts, shortcuts, smarter approaches but also on regularity, interaction with other GRE students etc. which can happen only in a collective learning ambiance. A poor GRE score not only makes you spend $200 again but also makes you waste a lot of time. Moreover it also shakes your self belief. You might as well finish it off once and for all by preparing in style and not leave any stone unturned. 18

  19. Students who claim to “manage” GRE on their own forget that they don’t have to manage it but have to “excel” at it. For managing, self study is enough. To excel, training is imperative. An authentic GRE training can only upgrade your scores. The cost of GRE training is not even 1% of the total cost of your MBA/Masters. This 1% spent will ensure maximum ROI on your other 100%. • Preparing for the GRE involves project management skills! You need to plan your test date in advance and work backward to make a schedule that covers conceptual learning, practice, mock test trials and performance analysis. • . 19

  20. 2 : Beware of tall claims Ignorant students become easy prey to marketing gimmicks of Test Prep classes which lure them by tall claims, score guarantee & offers. Don’t get carried away by any “guarantee score”. Edward Koch said ' I can explain it to you, but I cannot understand it for you' Nobody can give a guarantee on your behalf. The guarantee that classes offer generally involves 'permitting' you to (re)sit for the classes/topics again without fees. What good is that?! • It’s the trainers & not the BRAND that helps you upgrade your score. Hence meet the trainers personally to know their expertise and experience. In fact, we recommend you attend a trial class before you freeze on your preferred choice of trainers. If an institute doesn't permit you a free trial class, it can mean only one thing :) • If you do indeed like the trial class, please confirm whether it's going to be the same set of tutors throughout. • • Don’t just read testimonials, speak to students. Any institute is only as good as the success of its alumni. Speak to a few students before you join an institute. If you don’t know any, ask the classes themselves for references. Any institute worth it's class should easily be able to help you. 20

  21. We have listed more than 150 students, along with their scores & email ids so that you may have a reference check with some of them before you proceed. As a lot of these students are second timers, we have also mentioned their former institute with whom they may not have had a pleasant experience. You can authenticate these email ids by copy-pasting them on Face book to view their profile. • “We are the only GRE prep center in India to do so to maintain utmost transparency.” 1) Randomly email few students and ask them about their experience & value addition with us. 2) Attend demo/trial GRE sessions with us so that before enrolling, you know exactly what you are paying for. We generally recommend students to follow the above two steps with all the GRE test prep companies that they have shortlisted. You cannot go wrong with this sensible and logical way of reference check. 21

  22. “Second Timers” Shagun Mehta, shagunmehta@gmail.com (previously joined Princeton) Manav Bhahmbhatt, manav.brahmbhatt@yahoo.in (Previously joined JAMBOREE) Siddharth Gupta, siddharthgupta1234@gmail.com (previously joined JAMBOREE) Ankur Seksaria, 620, ankurseksaria@gmail.com (previously joined R.Saraswati, Vile Parle) Hitesh, electronic_rogue@yahoo.com (previously joined IMS) Vivek Laddha, 680, vivekladdha@gmail.com (previously joined TIME) Rachita Kumar, (matunga), rach.kumar@gmail.com (previously joined KGC, pedder rd) Merlyn D’souza, Merlyn.ds@gmail.com, (previously joined both Sonia Mutalia, khar & IMS) Nikhil Tanwani, (khar), nikhiltanwani@gmail.com (previously joined Sonia Mutalia, khar) Anand Piramal (Piramal group), 710, Harvard Puneet Sehgal, 720,(juhu), Darden, puneetsehgal@hotmail.com (previously joined GEEBEE, andheri) Nikhil Keswani, 680, nikhilkeswani@gmail.com (previously joined Edwise) Uday Kumar, 680, yuukay76@hotmail.com (previously joined Prep Zone) Rohan Suryavanshi, 750, Bhopal, rohans69@gmail.com (previously joined Chopras, Kaplan) • • • • • • • • • • • • • • 22

  23. 3 : Attend LIVE Interactive Classes (Not Recordings) Online programs like Magoosh / Veritas / Manhattan / Byjus have recorded lectures. This one -way communication doesn’t bring the all-important discipline and rigor in your preparation. Also, you do not have 'live' instructors to ask queries to and fellow peers to talk to. Due to this most students leave the program mid-way because they don't feel motivated or interested enough. As a case in point, Coursera has an abysmal 5-10% rate (google this). Plus the Golden Question: How do you ask your doubts!? At MGA, you attend LIVE classes with 2-way communication. With compulsory study & a pool of students to interact with. 23

  24.  Do not aim Low:  A good GMAT/GRE score is a stepping stone for any good program in any decent college across the world.  May it be Masters/MBA/PhD  May it be US/Canada/UK/Germany Singapore/Australia/India, etc.  Unless it's some B grade program/university which requires only a Toefl or IELTS, irrespective of wherever or whenever you apply, you’ll require a good score. 24

  25. 4 : Don’t be hasty In case you begin your preparation late, you may find yourself in a situation where you do not have time to prepare for the GRE or do adequate research on countries, migration policies, rankings, etc. Just because you want to meet the deadlines, it doesn’t mean that you should take chances with your GRE scores or the quality of your university. • Remember that the brand of a particular college is going to remain with you for the rest of your life. It makes perfect sense to defer your applications by a year in order to get quality education leading to a great career. In our decades of experience , we have come across dozens of cases where students regret their University choice just because they gave in to family/societal pressure and rushed through their applications. • Give adequate time to you GRE prep and take the exam only if you are confident enough to get the deserving and desired score. • 25

  26. Give sufficient time to your research, essays, LoRs and other documentation in order to make your entire application as strong as possible. • It takes times to develop the required thinking, getting accustomed to the language and question types, getting familiar with the in-depth & tricky concepts and upgrade the reasoning/logic skills. To cite an example, 2 hours of preparation daily is worth much more than 7 * 2 i.e 14 hours over the weekend. • At MGA we understand that there isn't a single right way to study for the GRE, only the way that is right for you. We reduce your anxiety by helping you to approach the test with a solid plan while elucidating how to execute that plan. We let you get the most out of concepts, shortcuts, practice tests, and the other resources we provide you. We help you make a robust study plan that helps you stay on track week-to-week right until you exam date. • 26

  35. Study-abroad Consultants There are two types of study abroad consultants you come across: 1) Commission agents who have tie-ups with B Grade universities and who market themselves through newspaper ads, seminars or telemarketing. Beware of them. 2) Genuine study-abroad consultants who are very few in number and operate only on word of mouth. Always take some references of some past students before you approach one. We are not Study Abroad consultants and hence restrict ourselves only to test prep. However, we do guide our students regarding various aspects of applications based on our experience and our constant interaction with our ex- students. Our assistance includes mentoring on Masters v/s MBA, pros and cons of India v/s Asia v/s US v/s Europe, profile evaluation, when, where, how to apply, etc. We also help students to choose the right study-abroad consultants so that they have a seamless application process. 35
