  3. A Brief History The word sorority was derived from the Latin word meaning “soror”. The very first greek lettered sorority was founded in 1870, and the very first sorority, is even older than that. A sorority is a time honored tradition of sisterhood, education, and service. The women of Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority, Inc. commend you for seeking such a tradition to call your own.

  4. A Brief History of ABS Alpha Beta Sigma was founded by TEN GUIDING LIGHTS: Linda Annobil Monica Burgess Dannette C. Campbell Naeemah A. Carre Latasha P. Lessington Daniela J. Lopez Melinda V. Rodgers Candice M. Williams Mia R. A. Worth Shavonne R. Wyche On February 6, 1998 at the State University of New York, University @ Buffalo on the South Campus in Pritchard Hall.

  5. Past Events/Community Service The 1st Annual Sickle Cell Walk (our walk in conjuction with the Sickle Cell Disease Assoc. WNY & Bflo. Chp) The Breast Cancer Walk Kid’s Voting Health Workshops Educational Workshops Kid’s Culture Day Clothing Drive Food Drive

Requirements Some basic requirements that must be met by every applicant seeking admittance: -Must be a female matriculating student, in her 2nd semester -Must have at least a cumulative 2.0 -Must have at least a semester gpa 2.5 the semester prior to intake -Must have participated in community service activities -Must be hard working and dedicated Although this org. is small in quantity, we are large in quality, and we intend to keep it that way. So if you are not serious, and willing to work hard to get in, and even harder if admitted, then please don’t waste your time, or ours.

  7. Colonies & Chapters If you are thinking of chartering a chapter at your school here are some things that you should know. To charter a colony a minimum of 4 women, whom meet the requirements are required. These 4 women must also complete the membership intake process. A colony can later on become a chapter, once it meets the requirements for chartering a chapter

  8. Chapters & Colonies, Cont’d To charter a chapter a minimum of 7 women whom meet the requirements is necessary. These 7 women must also complete the mandatory membership intake process. Both a colony and a chapter can only be chartered after an interest group (B.I.T.S.) has been formed, and they have finished all of the necessary requirements.
