MPSA Mission The Master of Public Service and Administration (MPSA) program develops principled leaders for the public and nonprofit sectors, providing students the tools and knowledge they will need in order to perform effectively and ethically in a time when public servants face new and increased challenges.

  20. Bush School Student Awarded TCMA Ridley Scholarship The Clarence E. Ridley Scholarship(For the 2008-2009 Academic Year) The 2008-2009 Clarence E. Ridley Scholarship, sponsored by the Texas City Management Association, is a $5,000 educational fellowship for the August 2008-May 2009 Academic Year. One graduate student from a Texas university will be awarded $3,500 to be used for his or her school related expenses. New Five Year Dual Degree Program with Economics • Joins existing program with Political Science • Enables students to receive both their bachelor degree (BA/BS) and MPSA degree in five years. • Students enroll in Bush School graduate courses during what would be their senior year • Take same curriculum as other master’s students • Admission limited to outstanding students • Additional programs are in development and discussion stages

Some Examples of MPSA Faculty Research Products Increased Knowledge About Global Warming Leads To Apathy, Study Shows ScienceDaily (Mar. 28, 2008) — The more you know the less you care -- at least that seems to be the case with global warming. A telephone survey of 1,093 Americans by two Texas A&M University political scientists and a former colleague indicates that trend, as explained in their recent article in the peer-reviewed journal Risk Analysis. "More informed respondents both feel less personally responsible for global warming, and also show less concern for global warming," states the article, titled "Personal Efficacy, the Information Environment, and Attitudes toward Global Warming and Climate Change in the USA.“ Professor, Bob Bullock Chair in Government and Public Policy, and Director of the Institute for Science, Technology, and Public Policy

She received the 2006 best-dissertation award from the W. E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. And her results will be published in forthcoming papers in the Journal of Human Resources and the Journal of Law and Economics.”

Bush: Initiatives, Achievements, and Long-Term Impacts • April 16, in Presidential Conference Center • President Bush was joined by Robert Grady, who served in the White House as the Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for Natural Resources Energy and Science • Students submitted questions for the seminar; one student presented an introductory overview of environmental policy agenda and legacy of President Bush’s Administration • The President and Mr. Grady commented. Prof. Vedlitz moderated the Q&A session

Important Demographic Trends • Older and less white population • 2000 Census – 12.5% Hispanic or Latino; 12.3% African American/Black; 3.6% Asian; 1% Native American • 2006 Graduate Student enrollment: 8% Hispanic or Latino; 13% African American/Black; 6% Asian; 1% Native American • But only about 12% of the professoriate are members of the three major underrepresented groups • Continued high level of demand for American public affairs education by international students
