This project explores changes detection and control within 3D parametric systems using symbolic diagrams. We address challenges such as change blindness, occlusion, and multi-location modifications that complicate the detection of small geometric changes. We propose innovative visualizations through a symbolic diagram approach that illustrates dependencies and relationships using directed acyclic graphs (DAGs). Our research evaluates how existing CAD visualizations can be enhanced to support effective change detection and control, ensuring a more intuitive design experience for users.

Symbolic Diagram • DAG that: • Shows dependencies features • visually expresses relationships
Problem • Change detection and control on geometry: Change magnitude is small. Zoom factor and model size. Occlusion. Multiple locations. hain of changes. Change blindness.

Research Question • How to make existing CAD visualizations help with change detection and control?
Proposed solutions • Changes visualization mode on Symbolic Diagram: • Dynamic Query: what is effected? • Visualization Guage: how it is effected? • InfoViz principles: • Filtering • Importance-Driven Visualization • Focus/Emphasis • Demo
Evaluation of solution • Participants - CAD research group. • "controlled experiment" - with and without proposed method. • Measure • Completion • Time • Satisfaction • # changes detected…
