  2. Early Man • Paleolithic Era-Old stone age • Environment- Local environments or surroundings • Society-A group of people working under a set of rules • Migration- To move from place to place

  3. Farmers and City Dwellers • Droughts- A long period of time little or no rain • Plow-A tool to cut, lift, and turn soil • Irrigation- Ways to move water to land • Slash and Burn farming- to burn forests for land to farm on

  4. Mesopotamia • Caravans- a group of travelers, as merchants journeying together for safety • City-States- A city and the farmlands around it • Clay Tablets- Is what the Mesopotamians wrote on • Bronze- Is a mixture of tin and cooper

  5. Egypt • Hieroglyphs- Pictures or symbols that stand for words, sounds, or ideas • Papyrus- A paper like material that Egyptians wrote on • Pharaoh- A ruler of Egypt • Afterlife- Life after death

  6. Greece • Harbors- A sheltered place with deep water by shore • Isthmus-a small strip of land connecting two larger ones • Peninsula- a stretched piece of land surrounded by water on three sides • Bard- A story teller that travels from town to town

  7. Rome • Road- First civilization to build roads • Coliseums- A large stadium for special events • Concrete- Man made rock • aqueduct- Stone water system to bring water where you want
