  1. America was settled by people who were seeking to escape a growing secularism (Pilgrims). They wanted to worship in their own way. Others, instead of leaving their country, decided to stay home in England to seek to reform the situation there (Puritans).

  2. What do you see as the benefits and negatives of both positions? If you were faced with the situation of leaving or staying to reform, which do you think you would attempt? Why?

  3. While living in a secular society can be difficult, the Holy Spirit will give us everything we need to live our lives for Christ. In today’s lesson, we will see how.

  8. Satan’s work to blind people to the truth of the gospel demonstrates that we are engaged in a spiritual warfare, and need the Holy Spirit to open our eyes and give us understanding.

  9. The Spirit of Christ Reveals Truth to Secular Culture The Holy Spirit opens blind eyes, softens hard hearts, and puts flesh on dead bones. He is the one who convicts the world of sin and of coming judgment.

  15. The Spirit of Christ Does Not Seclude or Secularize, but Sends Jesus sent His disciples into the world in the same way that He was sent in to the world. So the world, through Christ, might be saved.
