  3. What’s a Planning Guide? • Planning Guides are provided by schools offering degrees • ASU, NAU & UA • Coming Soon? AGEC guides for community college students • Planning Guides are created from within a CAS Account • CAS Account creation Planning Guides are interactive • They apply courses to degree requirements • They apply AGEC completion information • Planning Guides are dynamic • They are processed in real time using current data • (Go to CAS!)

  4. How do I create a Guide? • Go to CAS! (http://az.transfer.org/cas > ‘Go to CAS!’ quicklink) • Log in as a member • Create a new account, using any username/password you’d like • Log into an existing account • Click “Planning Guides” • You may run guides whether or not you’ve entered courses into your portfolio. • Go to CAS!

  5. Regular vs. Cross- Reference • Regular guides – • Show the program requirements and how “your courses” transfer and apply • Show how an AGEC transfers and applies • Cross reference guides – • Also show all other courses at a school that could transfer and apply • Go to CAS!

  6. Why use a Planning Guide? • Instead of the CEG? • The planning guide automatically finds the equivalency rule for the correct year/term. • The planning guide uses live data – the historical CEG pages are not refreshed regularly. • The planning guide shows how a course will transfer AND APPLY to degree requirements! • Go to CAS!

  7. Why use a Planning Guide? • Instead of the Transfer Guides • The planning guide uses live data – the Transfer Guides are static. • The planning guide shows how a student’s courses will transfer – the Transfer Guides are not personalized. • Go to CAS!

  8. Efficient use of Planning Guides • For advisors? • Create a CAS account to store cross-reference guides for programs you advise towards • Be familiar enough with the process of generating guides so that you can help students to learn • For students? • Ask students to create a guide before they meet with you – then use the guide to aid discussion • Go to CAS!

  9. Understanding Planning Guides • Planning guides are DARS reports • Each school may have it’s own abbreviations and codes • Reviewing ASU, NAU and UA Planning Guides • Use the Your CAS Team link to ask questions about the guides • “Find an Advisor” >> “Your CAS Team” • Go to CAS!

  10. Comments & Questions? • Kristy Jacobs-North, ASU • kristy.jacobs-north@asu.edu • Amy Fountain, AzCAS • amy.fountain@asu.edu
