  3. Many people promote products and services without a website, through: • Facebook fan pages • Free blogs • Squidoo lens • Hubpages • or in many other ways

  4. But by far the easiest way to get started online is with your own WordPress website

  5. Your website doesn’t need to be a graphic masterpiece or anything special, but the fact that you have your own website will make a difference in the eyes of your visitors

  6. Today it’s possible to have a professional looking website for free, thanks to WordPress and their free blog platform

  7. Here is an example blog (actually, my dog Holly’s blog!)

  8. Keep watching on for how to set up a WordPress site (or blog)…..

  9. Here are 6 steps to setting up your own WordPress blog

  10. Step 1: Register a Domain Name

  11. The first step towards having your own website is to register your own domain name

  12. Your domain name is your website address or “url” and begins http://

  13. It’s the unique address of your website on the Internet For example, http://womenswaytowealth.com is my domain name for Women’s Way To Wealth

  14. Domain names contain two parts - • the actual name of your website (or keyword you are going for) + • extension (.com, .net, .org and so on)

  15. For example, google.com is a domain name This domain name consist of actual name (Google) and extension (.com)

  16. Now, you can find domain names like google.fr, google.co.uk and so on which are country specific but I would only use those if your site is country specific

  17. For example, I have a property/real estate site which is only for UK investors so that’s a “.co.uk” domain Otherwise stick with “.com” which is a global domain

  18. To find and register domain names I recommend GoDaddy (BTW, they have a 30% off sale at the moment) http://x.co/wwtw

  19. Step 2: Get A Web Hosting Package

  20. Web hosting is a service that stores the files for your website and makes them available on the Internet

  21. In general, when you are purchasing a web hosting service, you are actually purchasing a place on web server where your website’s files will be hosted

  22. Those web servers are constantly connected to the Internet, differently than how our computers are connected, and that allows them to make your website visible to any visitor at any time

  23. Without a web hosting, your website wouldn’t be available on the Internet

  24. My preferred web hosting service is Hostgator It’s cost-effective (from $4.95 per month) and they have amazing customer service

  25. Step 3: Install WordPress

  26. In this step you will see how easy and quick it is to get your new website online

  27. The only thing you need to do is to install WordPress, which can be done pretty quickly through the cPanel of your web hosting account using the Fantastico smiley face icon

  28. Install WordPress to the root of your website, since that’s the most common choice

  29. That means your WordPress based website will be available when someone visits your main website address – for example, www.your-website.com

  30. The only thing that you need to do is to enter all other information, like: • Admin email • Blog title (name of your website) • your First and Last name just for the purpose of creating your user account in your new WordPress installation

  31. When you are done click “Install Now” and in less than 5 seconds WordPress will be installed and your new website will be live and available on the Internet

  32. Step 4: Install WordPress Plugins

  33. Plugins are used to extend functionality, capabilities and the look of your WordPress based website

  34. They are the apps for WordPress

  35. There are thousands of plugins you can install and use on your website

  36. Literally there is a plugin for anything than can come to your mind, or for anything you can possibly need to add to your website

  37. You can find plugins for: • search engine optimization (SEO) • back-linking • adding images • ratings • adding additional features to your website • navigation • organization • schedule • subscriptions • and much more…

  38. Also, keep in mind that there are free and paid plugins

  39. Some additions to websites are “exclusive”, or some premium plugins can do more job done than free plugins, which is the main reason why they are paid plugins

  40. Step 5: Add Content To Your Website

  41. When you want to add content to your website, simply go to • “Posts” -> “Add new” to add new blog post, or to • “Pages” -> “Add new” to add a new page

  42. Pages appear on the navigation bar and are static (such as “About”, “Contact”, “Training”)

  43. Posts are usually blog posts and appear in chronological order as you blog

  44. Step 6: Ping Your New Website

  45. Pinging is one good way to inform search engines about changes, updates and additions on your website

  46. By sending a ping you are actually sending an invitation to search engines to visit your website and index all the changes you have made

  47. Therefore, you should send pings to pinging services each time you make some changes on your website

  48. I recommend using Pingomatic

  49. So, are you ready to set up your website and start blogging?
