  2. First Impressions • How important are first impressions? • What can your clothes say about you? • Do you make assumptions about people based on the way they look?

Your Own Personal Style? • Do you care about what other people think of your appearance • Do you wear Fred Perry, Rockport boots or a Berghaus coat when you normally go out? • Do you wear baggy clothes? • Are labels/brands important to you when you are shopping? • Would you say you are fairly sporty? • Which bands style of music do you prefer? • What do you spend most of your free time doing?

  4. Representation • Representation is how characters are conveyed to the audience. • It has to be done quickly – can rely on stereotypes • Uses character ‘types’ or archetypes

  5. Stereotyping People have preconceptions based on: • The way people look • The way people speak • Where they come from • Anything else?

  12. What is ‘mise-en-scène’? Mise-en-scène is the placing into the setting on all the elements to be filmed; props, lighting, character behaviour, make-up, sets and anything else that is in the frame of the camera lens at the time of filming. For example, an adaptation of a Charles Dickens novel would include period costume, Victorian buildings, gas lamps, the clopping of horses hooves and so on.
